Garden planner
Draw the plot, see the sums.
A rectangle, a few choices and a sample calculation you can follow line by line. The drawing is an illustrative plan, not an installation drawing.
The planner needs JavaScript to respond to your choices. What you see below is the worked example it opens with: an 8 m by 6 m plot with a half patio, a 0.5 m border and the Standard allowance.
Plan drawing and sums
Areas
- Plot
- 48 square metres
- Patio
- 24 square metres
- Border
- 4 square metres
- Lawn
- 20 square metres
New lawn is the remainder: 48 square metres − 24 square metres − 4 square metres = 20 square metres. Areas are exact; only each charge is rounded, to the penny.
Sample calculation
| Project setup allowanceA fixed sample allowance | £350 |
|---|---|
| Patio24 square metres at £110 per square metres | £2,640 |
| Rear planting border4 square metres at £65 per square metres | £260 |
| New lawn20 square metres at £18 per square metres | £360 |
| Sample total | £3,610 |
| Indicative range | £3,050 to £4,175 |
A sample calculation from invented demonstration rates. It is not a quotation, and it is not a promise of any final price. The indicative range runs from 85% of the sample total, rounded down to the nearest £25, to 115%, rounded up to the nearest £25. The allowances are fictional and inclusive. No separate tax is calculated.
Your plan, as a brief
- Garden size
- 8 m wide × 6 m long, 48 square metres
- Patio
- Half of the plot, across the front: 24 square metres
- Rear border
- A 0.5 m deep border across the back: 4 square metres
- New lawn
- Everything else: 20 square metres
- Finish allowance
- Standard (illustrative)
- Site
- Level plot with straightforward access
How the sums work
Simple, checkable, and only a sample.
- Plot area is width times length.
- Patio area is the plot area times the share you choose: none, a quarter or a half. Areas are used exactly as worked out, with nothing rounded. Each charge is rounded to the nearest penny, and the sample total adds those charges together.
- Border area is the width times the border depth.
- New lawn is whatever remains once the patio and border are drawn. So the three areas always add up to the plot.
- Each area is multiplied by its sample rate, and a fixed setup allowance is added.
- The indicative range runs from 85% of the sample total, rounded down to the nearest £25, to 115%, rounded up to the nearest £25.
